Productos Asfálticos, S.A. (PROAS) founded in 1957, is the company in the CEPSA Group that commercialises tars and their derivatives.

At the beginning of its activities, PROAS had six factories. During this time, due to the increase in sales and development of new products, PROAS has developed a process of modernisation and extension of its factories with new installations, adapting its terminal network to the increasingly greater demands of the market. It now has 7 modern factories on the Iberian Peninsula at strategic locations, that allows it to attend to the peninsular market and providing it a magnificent platform for exports. It also has 11 commercial delegations from which it provides its customers commercial coverage.

From the moment of incorporating PROAS, when tar technology in Spain was at its beginnings, to the present day, PROAS has carried out a major effort in developing a major technology in the tar world, based on the quality of an excellent human team, with a profound knowledge of the new technologies. This has allowed it to attain a solid reputation based on the experience, competence and capacity of its professionals.

PROAS is now a company with a stock capital of 3.1 million euros. Its head office is located in  Madrid, (Ribera del Loira, 50) and its main activity is the sale of tar and derivates from the Group. It also manufactures and commercialises bituminous emulsions, modified tars, oxyasphalts and materials for industrial applications and support for construction.

This has all made it possible for PROAS to occupy the important position it has within the CEPSA Group and has allowed it to attain an important quota on the market on the Iberian Peninsula.

One must emphasise CEPSA´s activity in Portugal through CEPSA PORTUGUESA, a subsidiary of the CEPSA Group, the commercial activity of which is carried out from the central office located in Lisbon, the market supply being performed from the CEPSA PORTUGUESA factory in Matosinhos. Likewise, PROAS maintains an important, growing export activity, mainly oriented at the European  Community markets, the countries in the Mediterranean Basin, the main countries in Northern and Western Africa and North America.

Primary Distribution

Once the tar is manufactured at the refineries, it is distributed by ship or in tanker trucks to the PROAS factories for transformation and subsequent dispatch to the end customers.

Asphalt ships perform this primary distribution of tar from the refineries to the coastal terminals. The Tarragona factory is linked directly to the Asesa refinery by pipeline.

Secondary Distribution

Once the tar reaches the factories, it is either stored or transformed and supplied to the end customers in their catchment areas using especially prepared, heat proofed tankers, through an ample transport network that strictly fulfils the ADR safety regulations.
