In 2008, CEPSA GAS LICUADO embarked on a project to automate the validation process, which involved incorporating a microchip in the cylinder (Radio Frequency IDentification-RFID) containing information about it. CEPSA is the only butane supplier in Spain, and one of the international pioneers, to incorporate this device in all of its cylinders.

The Middle Distillate Capacity Expansion (MDCE) at the "La Rábida" refinery is CEPSA's largest ever investment project, if we exclude the initial construction of its refineries. It is also one of the most important projects carried out in Spain in recent years, not only because of its contribution to alleviating the shortage of middle distillates (diesel and kerosene) that Spain is experiencing, but also because it includes processing units that have not previously formed part of CEPSA's manufacturing operations and are an innovative component in the technology used at this always environmentally-friendly plant.

The "La Rábida" refinery in Huelva has introduced a system that is pioneering in Spain, consisting of a simulator which anticipates problems involving emissions and pollution levels which may be caused by the operation of the plant and evaluates their effect on the environment. This is yet another demonstration of CEPSA's respect and concern for the environment, biodiversity and the local residents.
