Antonio Albacete was born in Madrid in 1965. Ever since he was a child he has lived and breathed the characteristic smell of the mix of rubber, petrol and oil that led him down an obvious career path: the world of motorsports. At just 12 years old, he got his start in karting and three years later he took second place in the Spanish championship.
A year later, in 1982, he began motor racing and won the Spanish Formula Fiesta Championship, becoming the youngest champion in the history of Spanish motor racing. He then went on to compete regularly in motorsports events, both national and international, winning numerous titles in different disciplines, including the Spanish Touring Car Championship, which he won in 1994 and 1995.
Albacete signed with CEPSA in 1997, becoming the official driver for the CEPSA Competition Team. Since then, the Madrid driver has steadily picked up a number of professional titles. After several years competing in the now defunct European Super Truck Championship, Antonio Albacete made his debut in the truck category in 2005, winning the championship.
One year later, in 2006, the CEPSA Team started out as the big favourite and succeeded in regaining the title in the last Grand Prix. Excellent teamwork throughout the season was once again rewarded.
In 2007, after an exciting season, Antonio Albacete succeeded in winning what would have been his third consecutive European Championship. However, a FIA decision stripped him of the title a few weeks later, relegating him to second place in the final classification.
In the 2008 season, after provisionally leading the general classification, he ended up taking third place in the championship.
In 2009, Albacete led throughout virtually the entire season, closely followed by David Vršecký and Markus Bösiger, until a possible team strategy left the CEPSA driver out of the running for the title. Although they did not take the championship title, the CEPSA Team and driver Antonio Albacete gave a spectacular performance.
The CEPSA Team and Antonio Albacete made history once again during the 2010 season, both in Spain and abroad, with the Madrid driver becoming the first Spaniard to win the first truck race to be held in Russia.
The 2010 championship was marked by the leadership of the CEPSA Team, which topped the standings throughout the championship, ultimately winning it at the Albacete GP. Antonio Albacete was proclaimed champion at the last Grand Prix, held at the Jarama Circuit in Madrid. With this victory the CEPSA driver became a three-time European Champion.
This season, Antonio Albacete faces the challenge of defending his position as current champion. The CEPSA Team's main rival is once again the MRK Technology Team (Renault), led by Markus Bösiger and Markus Oestreich, although other contenders such as Jochen Hahn and David Vršecký should not be overlooked.
