In this section you will learn about how CEPSA Quimica is preparing to fulfill its obligations under REACH Regulation, in order to properly register its products (our deadline, November 2010).
The Regulation 2006/1907/EC concerning the manufacture, import, placing on the market and use of chemicals in Europe (REACH), was finally adopted by EU Member States in December 2006. It has entered into force on 1 June, 2007. It replaces more than 40 European Union Directives and Regulations, and has been one of the most complex pieces of legislation developed in The Council and the EP history.
REACH is the acronym for: Registration, Evaluation Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals, procedures which shall carry out the European Policy of Chemicals.
This new system changes responsibilities from Public authorities to Industry, manufacturers, importers and downstream users who must ensure the safe use of chemicals. It‘s applicable to the European Economic Area, this means EU 27, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
REACH affects all companies manufacturing or importing chemical sustances into the European Union in quantities of one tonnes or more per year, on their own, in Preparations (a mixture or solution composed of two or more substances) and to some extent, Substances in Articles. Also, Distributors and Downstream users have obligations in REACH, as communicate up in the supply chain on uses of sustances and identify and apply measures to control risks down in the supply chain.
CEPSA QUIMICA has established a team who coordinates REACH activities. We have been working with business representatives and contact points at each of our manufacturing sites, in order to build an inventory of products which are used, manufactured or imported by CEPSA Química, and was the starting point at the pre registration stage.
Currently, CEPSA QUIMICA is actively participating in various Consortia promoted by CEFIC Sector Groups which we belong to, as well as in Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF). CEPSA QUIMICA cooperates and leads in some cases Registration Dossier preparation and Chemical Safety Reports; challenge is to finish them before our registration deadline (November 2010). Also, we continue with a close relationship with our Customers and Suppliers, to compile necessary information on products we produce and buy.
