- Cepsa produces paraffin waxes at its plant in San Roque, Cádiz, which is equipped with the latest technology to manufacture, store and export paraffins.
- Cepsa is a leading company in the sale of paraffin waxes in Spain and Europe, exporting 50% of its production
Cepsa has obtained the EPD (Environmental Product Declaration), issued by DNV GL - Business Assurance, for its paraffin waxes produced at its Gibraltar Refinery-San Roque, located in the province of Cádiz, making it the first company worldwide to achieve this certification.
The EPD is a certified environmental declaration under international standard ISO 14025 covering environmental information regarding a product following an analysis of its life cycle. The methodology involves analyzing and quantifying the environmental footprint of the products at their different stages, from the extraction of the raw materials and the energy sources used in their production, right up to their final state as waste. The company has now attained EPD certification for seven paraffin wax products (Parasur 130, Parasur 150, Parasur 206, Parasur 600, Cerasur 725, Cerasur 725D, Gel 600).
Following the award of this certification, Cepsa (a leading company in the domestic and European paraffin waxes market) has demonstrated its commitment to developing sustainable products which respect the environment, and to adopting transparent processes in anticipation of potential future regulations.
A commitment to sustainability is one of Cepsa’s values, and one of its main aims is to control the environmental impact of both its operations and its products. For this reason, the company has built high standards into its management systems with regards to the environmental impact of the company and of its products. In addition to this EPD declaration related to its paraffin waxes, Cepsa obtained the same certification in 2017 for its LAB and LABSA products manufactured in Spain (San Roque, Cádiz) and Canada (Bécancour); these are raw materials used in the production of biodegradable detergents, a sector in which the company is a world leader.
Besides this latest EPD certification, Cepsa’s paraffin production plant meets the toughest international standards. The facility has a management system certified as complying with ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:1996 and ISO 22000:2005 standards, the specifications set by the North American FDA and Halal and Kosher certifications, covering exports for the Muslim and Jewish food markets.
