- First scheduled shutdown of the year at the Cepsa industrial plant in San Roque concludes
- One hundred companies participated in the works, with peaks of up to 2,700 workers on the site
The Cepsa Gibraltar-San Roque refinery has completed its scheduled maintenance shutdown. Following two months of intense work, all the units at the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery affected by the shutdown are now fully operational.
During the shutdown, maintenance work and statutory inspections were carried out, and new equipment was installed in some of the units, aimed at increasing safety, lowering emissions into the atmosphere, improving efficiency, and raising the plants’ levels of innovation and technology. All of this entailed an investment of €181 million.
In the course of this work, 3,000 people including workers from Cepsa (mechanics, tube fitters, electricians, welders, painters, formwork carpenters, crane and forklift operators) from one hundred companies, mainly from Campo de Gibraltar, with peaks of 2,700 workers at one time took part.
Miguel Pérez de la Blanca, director of the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery thanked their work and dedication over the maintenance period.
Before entering the site, everyone who was involved in the work received a safety and prevention course from Cepsa, to complement the training provided by their respective companies.
Exhaustive Planning
Cepsa routinely carries out scheduled shutdowns of its units to perform intensive maintenance work and inspections that normally cannot be carried out with the units in operation. This work allows the Company to have modern, safe, efficient facilities with an integrated technical capacity.
Shutdowns require detailed prior planning over several months, with meetings between the departments and the ancillary companies. This coordination, together with the rigorous control of the daily tasks, is essential to guarantee the safety of people and the facilities, without affecting the environment or achievement of the Company’s ongoing goal of Zero Accidents.
