- Its members also agree to develop an initiative that will contribute to the improvement of sustainability in the capital of Tenerife
The Cepsa-Santa Cruz Liaison Committee will promote a participation project that aims to share experiences in social responsibility among different levels of society in Chicharrera. To this end, its members will have access to an online collaborative environment that allows them to work together to share ideas and good practices, as well as to share the needs and suggestions of stakeholders.
This was one of the agreements reached during the most recent remote meeting held by this body, which was created five years ago and in which people from various professional and associative sectors of Santa Cruz de Tenerife participated. They also agreed to contribute to improving the sustainability of the capital of Tenerife by developing a specific initiative that will be outlined in the coming months.
Cepsa's director in the Canary Islands, José Manuel Fernández-Sabugo, stresses that the direction taken by the Liaison Committee “fits perfectly with the company's work philosophy and with the different social and environmental actions that it supports on the Islands through the Fundación Cepsa.”
During his speech, Fernandez-Sabugo explained the new safety protocols and other measures that have affected the energy sector as a result of the health crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19. He stressed the strengthening and promotion of safety measures carried out in recent months in order to ensure the health of Cepsa's professionals and auxiliary service companies, including, among the numerous measures adopted, the installation of three thermographic cameras in the refinery, the first of these installed by a company in the Canary Islands. He also summarized the energy company's activity over recent months, as well as the easing of lockdown measures initiated by the company moving into the ‘new normal.’
The meeting also addressed the signature of the Good Environmental Practices Agreement with the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority, which will involve an investment of 600,000 euros between 2020 and 2022, in order to reduce the environmental impact of its facilities; the new health and safety certification received by the Tenerife refinery under the ISO 45001 standard, which it voluntarily undertook, obtaining an outstanding rating; as well as Fundación Cepsa activity which, in recent months, has focused on alleviating the effects of the pandemic among the most vulnerable.
The Liaison Committee is part of Cepsa's information transparency policy and continues to be a meeting point for the energy industry through which it can listen and respond to the concerns of the oil industry. This body is composed of members of public and private entities, non-profit organizations and various professional and associative sectors of the city.
