- The two companies plan to complete the installation of solar panels across Cepsa’s entire network of service stations in Spain and Portugal in two years, which will mean a reduction of more than 11,500 tons of CO2.

Redexis and Cepsa have begun creating the first global network of service stations generating renewable energy in Europe. Both companies' plan is to complete the installation of photovoltaic panels throughout Cepsa's service station network in Spain and Portugal by 2023. Currently, these panels have already been installed at 75 service stations and the companies plan to end 2021 with more than 200 photovoltaic installations completed.
To carry out this project, more than 40,000 high-tech photovoltaic panels will be used with a production capacity of more than 32,800 MWh per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 11,000 homes. The generation of this renewable energy will prevent the annual emission of 11,500 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to planting 6,000 trees, thus contributing to Sustainable Development Goals 7 (affordable and clean energy) and 13 (climate action).
During the signing ceremony of the agreement, held at the Cepsa Tower, Pierre-Yves Sachet, Cepsa's commercial director, said: "Cepsa's goal is to accelerate the energy transition, both in our operations and the energy solutions we offer our customers. The fact that our service station network will become the first complete network in Europe to generate renewable energy is a major step in this direction and a clear signal to our customers that our transition is underway."

These panels will be used to supply Cepsa's service stations during the day, while the surplus will be fed into the distribution network, thus optimizing the overall energy efficiency of the facilities and allowing 100% of the service station network to consume electricity from renewable sources.

Redexis already operates more than 1,200 kWp of photovoltaic solar energy capacity, with a total of 50 solar projects in Spain and currently has about 3,300 kWp under construction in different stages of development across all types of sectors, from industry and services to distribution and the domestic market. The company expects to end 2021 with more than 9,000 kWp of solar PV capacity in operation, which means avoiding 3,375 tons of CO2 emissions per year and savings in electricity consumption.
