- This seal of approval is the reference standard in Spain for the assessment and certification of a sustainable construction
- The building process for the Cepsa laboratory in Palos used the most innovative construction techniques to install a model with maximum energy efficiency
- The certificate guarantees sustainability criteria ranging from the design of the laboratory to the materials used for its construction, management and maintenance
The Cepsa laboratory located in the La Rábida refinery in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva) has achieved QSostenible “Evolution Excellence” certification, which guarantees the building’s energy efficiency and sustainable management. The QSostenible certificate, the reference standard in Spain, which is also registered at international level for the certification of sustainable constructions, establishes that the building has successfully installed, based on its innovative construction techniques, a model for sustainable use focusing its efforts on maximum energy efficiency and respect for the environment.
QSostenible is an international sustainable building certificate for in-use or existing buildings. It is promoted by the International Council of Sustainable Buildings & Energy (CIES in Spanish) and its achievement guarantees the environmental management of buildings, including improved energy efficiency, and their sustainable use and maintenance. This seal of approval is a tool that offers impartial and reliable knowledge of a building’s performance.
The Chairman of the International Council of Sustainable Buildings & Energy (CIES), Antonio Montaño, awarded the QSostenible certificate to the Director of the La Rábida refinery, José Antonio Agüera. The latter took this opportunity to underline “Cepsa’s commitment to sustainability and the continuous improvement of its facilities which, in this case, will help to boost its energy efficiency”. Agüera also highlighted Cepsa’s leadership in voluntary initiatives such as this.
Cepsa and sustainability
The QSostenible certification is a welcome addition to the actions already put in place by the company through
its Social Responsibility policy which covers aspects such as job creation, economic viability and respect for the natural environment. In this sense, the drive to make Cepsa’s buildings increasingly sustainable and environmentally-friendly, is in line with the entity's strategy focused on the continuous improvement of all its actions.
In line with its environmental protection policy, Cepsa applies high sustainability standards in its management of energy, waste, water and biodiversity protection.
QSostenible certificate
The QSostenible seal is supported by the Spanish Government’s Ministry for the Environment and, as a sustainable building certification tool, its achievement constitutes a mark of progress in companies’ environmental commitment. The certificate is an instrument promoted by the International Council of Sustainable Buildings & Energy (CIES) and is the result of a combination of various international projects with the aim of boosting and promoting sustainable building projects, both economically and environmentally.
